Kim Hoechst
Original Oil Paintings
Kim is an oil painter whose work is an exploration of how light and shadow affect color, texture and a sense of space. She seeks to find the visual interest or surprises in everyday moments close to home or when visiting exciting new places. Kim often features architectural elements like windows, doors, and archways in her paintings because they help place the viewer in the space, and because they provide the opportunity to create vignettes or mini compositions within the larger piece. She has always chosen to paint in a representational style, but recently she has been seeking to bring an element of abstraction into her work by focusing more on the patterns, rhythms and geometry she finds in her subject matter.
Kim has been painting since 2006, when she left the corporate world and began an extensive period of study in drawing, painting, and sculpting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Currently, Kim maintains a studio at Spring City Mill Studios and is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the Delaware Valley Art League. She also holds a Certificate in Floral Design from Longwood Gardens.
